You can't leave 'em for a SECOND!

Notice the dirt around the mouth.... who knows how much he ate before I got to him!

This morning may be the beginning of the end of an era.  For the first time in the history of the big girl bed, Lily got out of bed this morning when she was ready to get up (about 7:30).  She has never done that.  Ever.  She always just stays in her bed and starts calling for someone to come in her room so she can get up.

I heard her pad down the hallway to the living room looking for us.  When she didn't find us, she came into our bedroom and told us that Tyler was ready to get up (he was fussing and standing up in his crib).

After her nap, she did the same thing.  When she woke up, she came out of her room on her own.  I have no concern about her doing this - as long as it's an acceptable time to be getting up!  I just fear she'll starting getting up at 5am!  She's getting better at learning her numbers so we'll have to teach her that she can't come out of her room unless her clock starts with a 7!

We also took Tyler's pacifier away today.  He only ever got it at sleep times anyway, but we've decided it's time to take that away too.  So for both naps and then bed time tonight, he didn't get it.  He's cried for 10-15 minutes each time before finally giving up and falling asleep.  Normally, with his pacifier, he might cry 10-15 seconds, if that, when putting him to bed.  So we'll see how this goes, but Joel and I are believers in the cold turkey method.  Poor fella - what mean parents!

Tyler took 3-4 good steps (not stumbling/falling steps, but actual steps) for Joel today and he did it again for me.  He's getting close!

Touch A Truck and Halloween Planning

Lily's school had a Touch a Truck field trip this week and Joel took a couple hours off of work to go with her.  The day is about learning about various people in the community like police and firemen and getting to know about the Bookmobile and School Buses.

Joel said Lily wasn't really interested in having anything to do with any of the trucks.  There was even a big tractor thing with a slide and she wouldn't climb up in the tractor even to slide down a slide!  He did finally convince her to check out the bookmobile - mostly because two of Lily's friends has visited the bookmobile and came out with princess coloring books and Lily wanted one too.

She just wanted to play on the playground.  She had a merry old time running around there.

Silly Girl!

I've been asking Lily what she wanted to be for Halloween this year.  Her first response was she wanted to be "A Man."  When I asked her what a man looks like, she said, "Like me!"
Then she told me that she wanted to be a pumpkin.
Then she told me princess.
So I took her to Target so we could look at some costumes and just general Halloween stuff to see if she might decide what she wanted to be.
We didn't get a half step down the costume aisle when she spied a Doc McStuffins costume and now that's what she's set on being!
However, the pre-packaged costume was $30 and it wasn't that great so I have to believe that I can come up with something better for equal or lesser money.  Now I have to say that I really impressed myself with convincing my 2.5 year old that we didn't need to take that costume immediately to "the buyer" (that's what she calls the cashiers) so we could take it right home with us.  I convinced Lily that I would look around on the computer and at other stores for a Doc McStuffins costume.  (So now, every chance she gets, she asks me to show her Doc McStuffins on the 'puter).
Then we had a bit of fun with the other costumes.

Not sure yet what Tyler's going to be.  I asked him but he didn't tell me yet.

Tyler's Birthday Party.....The Recap

I know that Tyler's birthday party was three weeks ago, but I've had a busy few weeks so I'm just now getting around to posting some pictures from his party.  Here we go!

The food spread was pretty simple:  burgers, brats, hot dogs, hashbrown casserole, mac 'n cheese, chips, pasta salad, and.....Elmo inspired fruit trays and Hawaiian punch!

After lunch we played outside for a while.  We had really beautiful weather!!  Uncle Josh was walking Tyler around the yard.  Poor Tyler and his perpetual snotty nose!

We opened presents outside.  Tyler was spoiled rotten, of course!

Little help from big sis!

Uhhh.....why did someone give me paper??

Is that it??

After presents it was dessert time!

Meme made these cute Teddy Grahams race cars.

Cuttin' out the middle man (hand) and just put my whole face in it!

We rented a jumpy house for the kids to play in which was a big hit!  Obviously!

And we wrapped up the day with some family photos!
