Kids Say the Darndest Things!

Last week for Joel's 37th (whaaaat??) birthday, we headed up to Greenwood for dinner and ate at Thai Spice - heavenly!!  Lily of course didn't want to have anything to do with any of the food, but Tyler was all about it.  He ate TOFU (eeewwwwwwww) and spicy fried rice and he loved it!

After dinner, we decided to splurge on dessert and went over to The Cheesecake Factory to get some cheesecake.  Joel dropped me at the door to just run in and get it.  While I was in there, this conversation transpired:

Lily:  Where'd Mommy go?
Joel:  She went in the cheesecake store to buy some cheesecake for dessert.
Lily:  It's not Jesus-cake!  It's GOD CAKE!

Where does she come up with this stuff??

I've been so busy the last couple weeks that I haven't had much time for blogging.  And sadly, it's not going to get much better until, oh, probably October.  Between several big reviews coming up at work and my boss changing jobs in the middle of that, my work life is going to be crazy stressful with some long days in my future.  Meanwhile, I also need to get my butt in gear on planning Tyler's 1st birthday party!  Gah!

So I'm positive that there have been many funny anecdotes like the one above that I should have written about and are now probably lost in my memory forever.  Bummer.

Lily is obsessed with pulling the wagon around the yard - preferably with Tyler in it but she'll settle for pulling Ellie or her "sister" (aka baby doll).  These pictures were taken prior to Lily taking a sharp turn and rolling the wagon on it's side!  Tyler is going to be SO tough.

This past weekend, the whole Fonner clan got together at Grams' house.  Joel and I took off work on Friday and finally got our day at Holiday World.  Mom offered to watch the kids for us!  Yes, we went to Holiday World WITHOUT the kids!  A.  We needed a break.  A real break.  And some time to just be together doing something fun for us.  And B.  I've been pregnant, breastfeeding, and/or toting an infant or toddler the last 3 years so I haven't gotten to ride any rides!  I wanted to ride rides!!

Unfortunately, a few hours in to the day, Katie calls and tells me that Mom's had to take Jason back to the hospital and she's at home with a 3 year old, 2.5 year old, 10.5 month old and a 5.5 month old.  YIKES.  She swears she's fine with the kids.  Don't worry.  Have fun.

So we stay at Holiday World.  Then, a couple more hours goes by and Katie calls again.  Lily has a fever of 103.4!  SON OF A!!!  We can't have NOTHIN'!  At this point, it's getting late, there's not much time left to ride any more rides (we got to ride a whopping 3 all day) so we cut our losses and head out.

Lily was pitiful the rest of the night.  Lethargic and burning up.  I put her bed early and she went without a fight.  The next morning, she woke up totally fine.  Crazy.

On Saturday, we were so lucky to have Aunt Sandy come up and stay with Jason so Mom could come home and spend time with all of us.  We enjoyed the pool and played and played and played outside.  We had visits with Meme and Papaw and with my cousin Dane.  Good times!!

More pool time on Sunday!

There's not much else in the world like being 2.5 years old and learning to pee on a tree!

Pink Eye Be Gone! Hello Double Ear Infection x 2!

I have some blogging up to do here!

We took a super quick trip to Evansville for the 4th of July and hung out with Grams and Jason for the day.  Since the kiddos had pink eye, we didn't get to celebrate with any of the cousins since we didn't want to spread it around.

I bought a $10 package of firecrackers from Walmart and the kids (Joel and Lily) were setting them off in Mom's front yard.

They were 90% smoke and 10% "firecracker."  I guess that's what you get for $10.

Grams was holding Tyler back because he kept making a bee line for the pretty colors.

We also got some sparklers for Lily to try which basically made me a nervous wreck the whole time.  I kept trying to tell her to hold it at the very end and not to put it by her face.  After a couple of those, I was ready for them to be done.  I've already caught Lily's hair on fire once this year.  Don't need to have a repeat of that!

After fireworks, we wanted to treat Lily to an Independence Day icee.  Holy moly, she LOVED that thing.  She ate all of hers and part of mine and part of Joel's.  When we were driving home, we fully expected her to conk out because it was past her bedtime.  But nooo....she rode that icee sugar high for the whole 3 hour drive and jabbered and sang her heart out the whole way.

When we got back to Columbus it was about 9:30 and people were shooting off fireworks all around our neighborhood so we drove around checking them out.  Lily got a real kick out of it.  Tyler slept through most of it but woke up and the end and didn't seem to be a big fan of the loud noise.

As of Friday, the kids' pink eye still wasn't better - AT ALL.  So I called the doctor again and this time they prescribed some eye drops instead of this eye ointment.  By Saturday morning, the kids eyes were looking TONS better.  It was so frustrating because with the pink eye, we couldn't send the kids to daycare and had kept them home all week.  If we'd had the right medication in the first place, they would have been better on Tuesday instead of Saturday.  Sigh.  I felt like a real jerk for complaining about having to take care of my own kids, but I can't tell you how much I was looking forward to a couple days of taking the kids to daycare and getting to spend some time in peace and quiet doing whatever I wanted!!  Oh well.  Maybe next time.

The rest of the weekend, we took it pretty easy.  We had a fun water day on Sunday afternoon and ate supper out on the patio.

By Tuesday, the kids pink eye was completely better!  Yay!

This week was the Bartholomew County Fair so on Thursday we took the kids out there.  Meme and Papaw were town for the day so we met up with them!  That was a nice treat.  Joel wanted to take Lily to see the farm animals.  They got their photo snapped by the biggest cow I've ever seen!

That night evening, both Lily's and Tyler's eyes had some green crusties in them.  I thought that maybe the pink eye was back.  Or perhaps it had never left and maybe I stopped the drops too soon.  So we resumed the drops that night but both kids were really low on drops so on Friday morning, I called the doctor to get a refill.  But that afternoon, they called me back and said that the kids shouldn't still have pink eye and that I needed to bring them in to be seen.

Turns out, they BOTH have DOUBLE ear infections.  That's 4 sick ears in case anyone's counting.  Ha!

We hit the ear infection lottery.  Awesome!  But at least the good news is that what they have isn't contagious and with antibiotics they should be good as new!

This morning, we went for a bike ride on the people trails.  And that pretty much brings us up to speed!  Whew!
